About the Society
The Cremation Society of Virginia – Hampton Roads Office opened its doors in 1996 as the first cremation society in Virginia and the Hampton Roads area. The Twiford family saw where more and more families were selecting the option of cremation, but were unfortunately having to pay the overhead expenses of the funeral home. That is when they decided to start the Cremation Society and offer cremation at a lesser cost to families by cutting overhead expenses but not cutting back on the quality or professionalism of the services provided by the staff.
We have a professional and caring staff and are compassionate to the needs of our cremation families – this is not just an alternative for us. We understand your wishes for direct cremation and the dignity and simplicity that come along with it. Your family is able to focus more on celebrating the life of the individual and not center the service around the body or a casket. We are here to make the difficult time of losing a loved one a little easier and less stressful.
At the Cremation Society of Virginia – Hampton Roads Office, there are no public viewings, no embalming, no caskets, and best of all, no sales pressure. Our directors became involved in the profession to care for the families they serve at their time of need. You could say it is their "calling."
We care about and understand your cremation needs – your family comes first
Most families select direct cremation to save their families money, to save land space, and they don’t want public viewing and visitations. It is important to take the first step and put all your wishes on file so your family does not need to guess what you want. The Cremation Society of Virginia – Hampton Roads Office is owned by the same family that owns and operates Twiford Funeral Homes and Albemarle Crematory so all of our employees are involved in the care of the deceased from beginning to end. Our crematory, located in Elizabeth City, NC, is required to have only certified crematory operators to perform ALL cremations, unlike in Virginia and yearly inspections are done to make sure that the crematory is in compliance with all rules and regulations.
Over the past thirteen years we have been able to keep our direct cremation charge under $1,000 with our basic cremation for members starting at $595 in 1996 and our value cremation for members as of May 2009 is $695. This is unlike most funeral homes in our area that increase in price dramatically every year. We are able to accomplish this with our large member base. At the Cremation Society of Virginia we work closely with area hospice organizations and give financial suggestions and assistance for families in need. Please contact us for further information. |
